Earth Science Units

This document is a collection of lesson plans which are used throughout the year in 7th grade Earth science.I have developed these lessons to meet the diverse needs of students and follow the Connecticut Common Core of Teaching (Science) Standards.
These show my knowledge and understanding of the subject matter an the ability to create lessons using a variety of mediums.
The variety of presentation methods and project demonstrate my understanding of NETS*T Standard 1,CCCT standard IIB4, and CF-ECSU 4.

Astro Suit Can Lab

This document is a student assessment in the form of a laboratory rubric and lesson on designing a space suit that displays my commitment to the constructivist theory providing students with opportunities to actively learn and  make connections to their world and how things work.  This rubric aligns to NETS*T Standards 1b engage Teachers engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources.  CCCT Standards IC2 teachers recognize the need to vary their instructional methods. Standard CCCT B4 Teacher employs a variety of instructional strategies that enable students to think critically, solve problems, and demonstrate skills. CCCT IB2 Teachers understand the central concepts and skills , tools of inquiry , and structures of the discipline(s) they teach. CCCT IIA2 Teachers select and create learning tasks that make subject matter meaningful to students.

This document is an example of a website I created for the Long Island Sound unit. There are many of my lessons, activities and assessments are linked to this page providing a thorough examples of most of the ISTE,NETS*T , CCCT,and CF-ECSU standards and proficiencies.

This document is a website I utilize for the students to collect live data on Long Island Sound water quality. This artifact demonstrates my ability to understand how students differ in their approaches to learning and inspires students in exploring real world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources which aligns to NETS*T standards 1 b, CCCT 1A2, and (CF)-ECSU Proficiencies 2:1.

Water Quality Assignment

This document is an example of a hands on activity that encourages the student to find the magnetic field. The magnetic field becomes visible as the students proceed into the lesson. This document is a Internet site with a membership (currently Governor Rell has paid for a subscription for all middle school science programs so that they may utilize this service.  http://www.discoveryeducation.com/     Science resource containing video clips, interactive explorations and Inquiry problems (interactive). The document shows my ability as an educator to develop lessons that incorporate Inquiry problems, and interactive situations for students to solve. I have developed whole units where the students start the task in class then they are able to continue at home. There are also quizzes attached which I created especially for my students. As they complete each part the assignment comes to me in an electronic folder. Student Track Star

This document is a track star interactive student research activity that I created on the Internet. This Track Star displays my ability to utilize technology to create a student centered lesson which poses thoughtful questions students as they collaborate with peers. This lesson is aligned with NETS*T - 2 Teachers design ,develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the NETS*T 2a and CF-ECSU Proficiencies.

This document is an example of a hands on activity where students will build an atom for the chemistry unit. This assignment can be simplified with one on one tutoring or enhanced for gifted students.

The document shows my understanding of the diverse cognitive abilities in my classroom. This lesson is aligned to NETS*T standard 2c  Teachers customize and personalize learning activities to address students’ diverse learning styles, working strategies and abilities using digital tools and resources. This artifact will take you on a virtual tour of Connecticut’s geology. A  video is one of the students’ choices for presenting their understanding of the geology of Connecticut. This project replaces a traditional test. CCCT IC1and  IC2 Teachers know how to design and deliver instruction, teachers recognize the need to vary their instructional methods. This document is a technology plan I developed in EDU 545 to incorporate technology advancement into all aspects of my classroom student experiences. I t shows my understanding of the use of educational technology and plans personal and professional growth. These lessons show my desire to grow as a professional and collaborate with teachers, parents, administrators and the community. This is a collection of documents I created as a team leader in collaboration with my middle school team. These documents display evidence of my service as a school team leader.
